Echo Flush Mount Technology Insight

Flush Mount is an innovative new frame mounting system that was developed by Echo Skates and involves the seamless integration of the frame directly into the bottom of the shell. This article will explore the awesome and unique advantages that a Flush Mount offers and set out to answer these three key questions:

  • What is a Flush Mount and how does it work?
  • What are the benefits of riding a Flush Mount?
  • Are there any limitations or drawbacks to using a Flush Mount?

Echo Flush Mount Explained

In an Echo Flush Mount, the frame slides neatly into two winged slots located on the bottom of the shell - one at the heel and one at the toe. To install the Echo frame, you simply lineup the top of the frame with the slots in the boot and push firmly until they slide into place. It can take some realignment, but the whole process is super intuitive and quite easy, even for beginners. The fit is snug without any hardware, but to secure the frame for skating, you'll attach five small mounting screws to hardware that rests inside of the shell. This ensures that the frame stays put for even the most aggressive skaters.

This video is a great visualization of how the Flush Mount works. Even though there are some quick cuts, the whole installation process for two frames doesn't take much longer than the 67 second run time of the video! We've actually timed it. For science...

The Benefits of Echo Flush Mount

There are a number of pretty awesome advantages to riding on a pair of Echo Freeskates that feature the Flush Mount technology. We'll list those benefits here, based on our own experience in these skates as well as from conversations we were able to have directly with the team that designed them.

Improved Responsiveness Traditional frames that use a few attachment points can't match the responsiveness that comes from this Echo frame being integrated into the shell. Every input from the skater translates more directly into the frame, the wheels, and eventually, the skating surface. Strides feel powerful and turning feels extremely precise.
Lower Center of Gravity The shell is carved out on the bottom to allow the wheels to sit as close as possible to the sole of your foot. A lower ride height translates into more stability, better balance, and easier edge work - all good things for urban freeskating.
Cleaner Aesthetic It's not a performance feature, but a lot more skaters care about how their skates look than let on. The Flush Mount hides all the hardware from view and makes Echo Freeskates look like one exquisite piece of equipment from top to bottom.
Lateral Adjustability Many inline frames offer a little bit of side-to-side adjustability these days, so this benefit isn't exclusive to Echo, but it is nice to be able to fine tune your alignment regardless.
Fast Frame Mounting By now you've read and seen just how easy it is to remove an entire frame, and they go back on just as easily. You could carry both 3 and 4-wheel setups and switch at a moment's notice, if that's your vibe.

The Drawbacks of Echo Flush Mount

There's a lot to like about a pair of Echo skates with a Flush Mount, so what's the catch? Well, if you're a skater who likes to change and customize their setup, you won't be able to do much of that due to the lack of compatibility with other brands' shells and frames. These Echo Freeskate shells can only attach Echo Flush Mount frames, and vice versa. There's a chance that the Flush Mount concept expands to other Echo products in the future, but given that the design is in its infancy now, there's no guarantee of what the future holds.
